Hospitality Design: ING Hotel

ING Hotel is a space to create memories, create great moments. The founder of this hotel is a pair of couples, Jason and Lynn. Both of them like to travel as flashpacker around the world. Now, they have reached their retired times, it is time for them to fulfill their dreams which create memories recorder space for their old times.

ING Hotel is a space to record their love story. Other than that, they would welcome any flashpacker to stay in ING Hotel to create their own great new experience. It is not just a place to record, it is also a place to share. ‘Sharing is caring’, with experience sharing among each other, it would be an appreciable chance that make people together.

CONCEPT: Memories are timeless treasure of heart

The story of Jason and Lynn gave a big impact on inspiring the design of ING Hotel. The moment that they wanted to fulfil their dreams on creating a hotel to share their flashpacker experience definitely makes a unique pathway for them to Be Bold, Be Free, Be You.

“Memories are timeless treasure of the heart” is the concept behind the design of ING Hotel. A memories recorder, the camera is element that influenced the most on this design. Camera, which functions as human eye, is an instrument for recording images and stored locally.
With the Earth colour series chosen, the style of heritage nodes can be portrayed clearly. It would mix and match with the surrounding environment. ING Hotel is a flashpacker hotel which provide quality services at a reasonable price. With an addition of hotel which able to blends in well with Ipoh Old Town style, it would bring in more tourists and yet increase the tourism income.
With the consideration of environment pollutions around the site, the proposed design of ING Hotel used eco-friendly materials to reduce the level of pollutions. The existing fixtures were remained where possible. A lot of full-height windows were installed to let the sun in, which draw light to every corner and provide ample amounts of daylight. Along with improving guests’ comfort, less energy is expended on lighting. Full-height vertical garden is lushly planted with local ferns. Plants work to clean the air and balance the humidity levels.
Before the beginning of design progress, I used to do lots of research online. The reference and sharing from lecturer would be my main source of information. During the whole progress, my main consideration is the heritage preservation of whole Ipoh Old Town area. To enhance the heritage preservation, the building material, brick wall was displayed to remind people about the basics and yet relate it back to the memory concept. My research findings had brings me to a true pathway towards the design of ING Hotel.

Dormitory
Dorms is the best room suggestion that suitable for flashpacker who wanted to make new friends and gain new experience throughout their journey. The dormitory in ING Hotel able to accommodate 4 to 6 persons. This design is strongly inspired from the theme “Back to College”. It is a space that full with both Jason and Lynn’s hostel life memories during their college time. Each bunk is provided with translucent shading as the consideration towards privacy issue. There is a built-in multi-functional desk available for each bunk too.

INSPIRATION

The design of furniture set is influenced from the traditional camera which performs in a square shape and form. The contrast on the brightness of the colours on the furniture set make people focus on the dark wood frame. Hence, it is painted with Nippon Paint Wood and Metal Series. The texture is well present under the luminance of warm lighting.
